This ingenious clock is based on original 17th century examples now held in the British Museum. They are attributed to Jacobus Mayr, of Augsburg and Jacobus Beham of Vienna. The clock needs no winding or keys as it slowly falls for a week under its own weight down the central chain. To rewind, the clock is merely lifted back to the top of the chain. The time is shown on the central band round the Equator. The Globe, which is fitted to a mahogany backboard, features the land masses in relief in gold leaf.
